Thieves
I logged into my fb account today and first post I see is of a hillarious alert warning people of a lethal pickpocket at Kenyatta National hospital bus station. I find it hillarious because the photograph of the suspected pickpocket marches the allegations. No offence but he looked like one. It got me thinking, why would someone settle for such kind of a job? There is need, we got to make money to survive but stealing is just way overboard. I have seen these thieves do their work so perfectly and act like they dont even know what happened. I have gone through the ordeal of being pickpocketed and have been told stories of how people lost their belongings in this way and IT'S NOT FUNNY.
The confusion that is felt just before you realize you've been stolen from and the shock and disbelief afterwards is not an intresting feeling to go through. You wish you din't go there, you din't use that matatu, you din't carry your fone, you din't take that seat next to that person, the wishes are uncountable but they are just that, wishes!
Do people steal only because they need? I don't think so. If so then why dont they stop after they get enough to start a business or something decent that will sustain them? Its just like prostitution. It gets addictive by the day and soon pickpockets will start advocating for their rights.I think it starts at an early age when a child steals ones or twice and they are not caught so they they keep perfecting the act and realize its an easy way of getting what they want. Before they notice it is a permanent behaviour that just wouldn't go away.
I hope there are no thieves reading my blog but if there are then they are at the right place. This behaviour needs to end sooner than later. The world always catches up with us eventually and its ugly when the 40 days are over. Recently Kenyan university students were killed because of stealing laptops but don't get me wrong, I dont advocate for mob justice. However the mob doesn't always wait for the law. Train your kids to always ask when they need and dont be too stingy with them because that might just result into a new thief from your village. Spare the road spoil the child.
