Simple secrets to success
Recently I had the privilege of graduating after five years
in campus. To crown my many years in school (about 20) I decided to celebrate
with few friends and relatives who shared with me several ways of how one can
succeed in life especially in one’s career. I collected all those good points
and added a few others that I have been practicing to create this blog post. I
hope they motivate us more towards our goals in life.
- Prioritize your lane; there are very many things that we can do at a go but it is good to identify the most important task of them all and put more focus on it. We cannot serve two masters equally at the same time, there will always be some bias therefore know your lane and stick to it. A good example is balancing between doing businesses and studying while in school. Too much of one of them may be a negative influence on the other therefore as much as we can do both there is a line we should draw to be able to achieve our main goal for going to school.
- Don’t be too choosy but at the same time do not fall for just anything; when it comes to opportunities do not be too selective or too proud. We all dream of big career opportunities but they do not always come instantly. Sometimes the smaller ones lead us to the big ones. However that does not mean we go for just anything that comes our way. Knowing what we want in life and what we deserve comes in handy in choosing which opportunities to go for.
- Keep going; there is never an end to success. One step leads to another and to keep up the energy we need to keep focusing, keep working hard and getting better at what we do. Do your best at every level and get new challenges every time you achieve previous set goals. Education and success do not have an end; we simply graduate from one level to another.
- Keep networking; No man is an island. However successful we may be we need people around us to make us better, challenge us, share opportunities with us etc. Creating networks simply means making good and genuine friendships with people who know what you do and vice versa and they can therefore challenge you towards being a better you or point you towards opportunities that you may not know of.
- Be the best; the rate at which people are studying, graduating and even doing further studies is very high. To stand out from the rest we have to simply be the best. There is no room for mediocracy in whatever it is that we do. Opportunities are there but to grasp them we need to get out of our comfort zones and be the best that we can be.
- Do not be intimidated; this goes especially to the ladies but is applicable to everyone. Sometimes we land into career fields or jobs that are male or female dominated which make us feel a little bit out of place or threatened. Good news is that the world is moving towards gender equality in all opportunities therefore let no one and nothing make you fear doing what you can do best.
- Know yourself; after all is said and done what remains is the truth that lies within you. You may be pushed to do things that you know you can’t do and you may be told you can’t do things that you know you can do. The power lies within you so listen to what others have to say, ignore the words that are out to harm you and take in the best advice but always remember to be true to yourself.
I hope these keep us motivated in
our day to day activities. All the best.
