When you feel stuck

Hello lovelies :-). I hope we have all been doing great. It has been long since I did a post. Well I am back, somehow. I was compiling a post about my life in campus.. yes I was until post-election violence hit us hard at The University of Nairobi. That is why I feel stuck. The end was so near yet so far. Anyway life has to go on and thanks to this situation I have something to write about, ‘when you feel stuck’.
So here I was very excited to finish campus after five good years. Of course it is never all excitement. There is fear, uncertainty, wonder, excitement and plans all in one. It is a sort of confused feeling. I mean I am all excited to be finishing school but what next? Am I going to get a good job? Do I really know what to do when I get that job? Do I go back to live with daddy or am I moving out? And then the traffic, where exactly will this job be? I hope I won’t be connecting twice and waking up at four to make it. In short, I don’t know what to expect or where to start I just know am finishing school but even this has been put to halt thanks politics.
So in the course of sleeping a lot and wondering when school will re-open and feeling stuck, I thought of how to deal with this feeling of feeling stuck. This does not only apply to those of us who were to finish school but have to wait. It also applies to those who are stuck between two decisions, situations or any other thing that seems to stop how things were progressing. Anyone who doesn’t know what to expect or how to deal with a situation, when to go and when to stop; what to do or if there is anything to be done in the first place. Here are three simple ways of dealing with being stuck;

  • Since there is nothing much that you can do about this particular situation how about you sit back, relax, get some more sleep and just wait. Yes just wait. It is very disturbing to see the end but not get there when you were supposed to but again we really never know when we were supposed to get there. Things happen the way they are supposed to happen we like it or not. I believe there is always a reason behind all things so when there is little you can do to change how things are sometimes it is okay to watch how they unfold. The end will come at its right time. Shake that worry off, meet people, chat up friends, baby sit if you can and pass time.

  •  Do the things that are doable. Simply because one area stopped moving doesn’t mean life stopped. There are many other areas that are still progressing. You could use the break to work on other things. For instance, you like writing but hardly have time. This is the time, write, write and keep writing until you forget you had a break. You are probably a social person but due to the pressure at school/work you just didn’t have the time for other people. Or maybe you like cooking or you are into business etc. Take advantage of this period and do the things you have always wanted to do.

  • Refocus. Use this time to clearly plan what you want to do after school. Due to the rush and a lot of work involved with finishing school many of us just want to finish and go. Well here is time to think about what you want to do, apply for jobs and other opportunities, look around clearly and see where you can venture into. This period could be a blessing in disguise.

The ups and downs of life make it worth it. We solve one problem this minute and another arises the next minute. That is life we just have to learn to enjoy the good times, sail through the bad times and afford a smile to cheer us on. All through my life I have learnt one very important lesson, that with God everything works out for the best. Even in our worst moments and in the ugliest of our character God always comes through for us. Have a lovely evening, won’t you?
